In 1216 the botanist Ibn Beittar published an essay about citrus fruit plantations in Benamocarra. In the area we can find two oil deposits from the period. With the passage of time the quality of the crops have been improved, and today we can find various sub-tropical fruits such as avocado, chirimoya and mangoes.
Walking through its streets we can find interior courtyards and arches which give away its Moorish past. Very interesting are the Arabic vestiges Pilar de la Luchena, and the Spanish Gothic church Parroquia de Santa Ana ( 16th century ), and the house of the composer Eduardo Ocon.
During the local festivals in October or on the 15th May ( San Isidro ) the tourist can enjoy Moorish dances and songs called Verdialles. The typical dishes are migas ( fried breadcrumbs ) and the so called Coles Moreadas - a kind of cabbage.
